Description
The fishing boat Captain Cook was once a San Francisco party boat sold at auction to the late John Malnati, a much-beloved and respected Fort Bragg fisherman. The story is told that he nearly lost her in thick fog while pausing to fish near Point Arena as he was towing her home to Noyo from San Francisco!
Mr. Malnati had her retrofitted with steel railings around the deck and a large, insulated steel crab tank was built and installed to serve as a fish hold. Fishermen who crewed aboard the Captain Cook attest to her seaworthiness as she fished along the West Coast north to Cook Inlet in Alaska.
The F/V Captain Cook’s glory days have come to a sad end. She’s berthed in Noyo’s mooring basin, waiting to be scrapped.
