Description
Fine art photograph of Ancestral Pueblo ruins in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico. This architectural photograph captures brilliant sunlight flooding the interior masonry walls of an upstairs room within the Pueblo Bonito Great House.
Three large windows, including a rare corner window, provide perspective on the thickness of these massive stone walls. It is theorized that the placement of the corner window may have been precisely sited to serve as an astronomical solar calendar marking solstice sunrises.
Construction of this 800-room pre-Columbian core-and-veneer structure, covering 3 acres and rising to 4 stories near the canyon wall, began in AD 828 and took the ancestral Puebloan people 300 years to complete.
