Description
Fine art wildlife photograph capturing a beautiful green heron (Butorides virescens anthonyi) fishing from a rock in a wetlands marsh in northern California. Unlike some other heron species, green herons do not nest in colonies and they are also solitary hunters. Herons can remain motionless, thus camouflaged, for a very long time while they wait for prey to come within striking distance. Green herons are one of the few species that utilize tools when hunting. They are known to gather insects, twigs and feathers and drop them on the water to lure aquatic prey close enough for a strike. Fine art prints available for sale. Kathleen Bishop 2014.
