This imposing Barrier Canyon style being has survived many centuries due to its location in a shallow alcove that provides a bit of protection, however the sandstone substrate surrounding the image shows significant weathering. Colonies of lichen have begun degrading some areas of pigment. Time will eventually destroy this ancient American art, if vandals don't find it first.
