Description
Fine art photograph of Armillaria Mellea mushrooms, or honey fungus, clustered at the base of an oak stump in the Cascade foothills of northern California. Armillaria species are thought to be one of the largest and longest-living fungal colonies in the world. An Armillaria colony in eastern Oregon covers 2,200 acres and is estimated to be 2,400 years old. The mass of the total colony is estimated to be over 600 tons.
