Fine art autumn landscape photograph capturing a dark double rainbow shooting from behind dramatically convoluted twists and folds of The Palisades in Sheep Creek Canyon, Utah.
The northern sky is filled with black clouds threatening another round of lightning strikes but a weak southern sun casts its faint glow on the autumnal cottonwoods lining the riparian corridor of Sheep Creek. Tall evergreens stoically climb the impossibly steep ramparts, haunt of resident mountain sheep, while sage and rabbit brush provide browse on the dry slopes.
The exposed rocks of Sheep Creek Canyon tell the story of events that shaped this jumbled geomorphology, reaching back through hundreds of millions of years. Here, the southwest branch of the Uinta Crest Fault defines the demarcation where the reddish- orange Hades Pass Formation was slammed against the jagged cliffs of Mississippian Madison-Deseret limestone. This "coming together" is believed to have happened during the Laramide...
I'm a native coastal Californian transplanted to the foothills of the Cascades. Being near the mountains has afforded me the opportunity to become attuned to seasonal rhythms and infuse that sense of time and place into my nature photography. I love to take off on roads less traveled, especially when it means losing myself in some remote place until I feel like being found. My portfolio includes natural landscapes, wildlife portraits, botanical macros, vintage architecture, cool geological formations, ranch life and a sprinkling of eccentric oddities that captured my imagination. I invite you to take a moment to peruse my galleries and follow me on Twitter: @EclecticImages. I hope you'll find something that makes you smile! .
