Description
This architectural photograph captures warm light flooding the rustic wooden wall of a derelict shed. This gem of a bygone day was discovered in an old California settlement tucked in rural Modoc County. Tattered strips of white bitumen roofing cast shadows on the dark honeyed exterior, where rows of old nails march along warped boards.
A rusted chimney cap juts above the ridgeline where rotten wooden shingles slap higgledy-piggledy down the slope.
A torn screen lolls its tongue out the only window, set beside a door-less frame. At the near end, a barn door framed in winter-dead vines slouches open on iron hinges, allowing tracers of sunbeams to etch a pattern on an interior wall.
A silver windmill, manufactured by Aermotor in Chicago over a century ago, looms above this delightful, historic ruin.
