Description
A Snowy Egret (Egretta Thula) chick grabs the beak of a smaller Great White Egret (Ardea alba) baby as the two perch side-by-side on the branch of a redwood tree. Snowy egrets are known for their aggressive and territorial behavior toward other herons so this may be a show of dominance, or perhaps the baby bird is just hungry. Heron parents can’t carry fish back to the nest so they swallow their prey. When they arrive with food for their young, chicks grab their parent’s beak, triggering the parent to regurgitate a meal for the babies. Yummy!
This fine art wildlife photograph of two baby herons perched in the sunshine in a giant redwood tree is being offered in vertical format.
