Description
Fine art nature photograph capturing nesting pelagic cormorants (Phalacrocorax pelagicus) in their rookery above the Pacific Coast in Sonoma County, California. Their nests are built of woven cypress sticks glued together with their guano and placed on tiny ledges on sheer cliffs above a rocky cove. This colony builds its nests in late April. Both parents take turns sitting on the eggs and feeding the chicks. The cormorant on the lower left has just flown in from fishing in the sea and is drying its iridescent feathers in the sun before taking its turn on the nest. Fine art prints available for sale.
