Description
Fine art wildlife photograph of Marbled Godwits (Limosa fedoa) resting on the shoreline of Bodega Bay in Sonoma County, California. These migratory shorebirds are members of the Scolopacidae family, Order Charadriiformes, and are related to sandpipers and curlews. In summer, they breed in the central plains of the United States and Canada but they winter along coastal waters. When the tide is out along the shore, they use their long beaks to pull prey suchs as bristleworms, small bivalves and crabs from the mud in the tidal flats ringing the harbor. The tide was in when this image was captured and they are using that time to rest on a sand spit with seagulls and preen their patterned feathers. Fine art prints available for sale.
