Description
Fine art wildlife photograph capturing a close-up portrait of a lovely male Spotted Towhee (Pipilo maculatus) perched on the branch of a winter-bare apple tree in northeastern California. This little passerine, a New World sparrow, scratches among the leaf litter in chaparral and mixed forests to expose insects and arthropods. Towhees also feed on a variety of seeds and berries. In winter, plant foods are the majority of their diet. This beautiful towhee has taken up residence in my backyard through the winter, feasting on seeds, courtesy of larger birds that kick seed from the bird feeder. ŠKathleen Bishop. kbishopfineart.com.
