Description
Fine art wildlife photograph capturing beautiful, wild, California Quail (Callipepla californica), also known as Valley Quail, perched in a Ponderosa Pine tree in the California mountains.
These endearing, plump birds are quite social and form large coveys that move and feed together. There is generally at least one male who serves as advance reconnaissance and as look-out while the others feed. Though they spend most of their time on the ground, they are accomplished flyers who will flush at the slightest disturbance.
They are part of a large resident flock who took a break from foraging to enjoy this sunny afternoon at the edge of the woods on my property in northeastern California.
This sunny, cheerful portrait of a group of California Quail is being offered on a variety of designer products, including designer face masks.
