American Bullfrogs (Lithobates catesbeianus), are not native to California, and have become an invasive species here and elsewhere in the United States and other countries. They are aggressive, predatory amphibians whose populations can out-compete and displace native amphibious species, including the endangered California Red-legged Frog.
This fellow and his brethren had established a foothold in this fishpond, where they dined on native tadpoles, frogs and fish eggs, but as nature would have it, our resident red-shouldered hawk took care of the problem.
