Description
Fine art scenic landscape photograph capturing a slice of southern Utah's spectacular geology. From a vantage atop the edge of the Waterpocket Fold reef in Capitol Reef National Park, Strike Valley bisects multiple eras of exposed, fossiliferous sediments bearing a rich array of extinct flora and fauna, both marine and terrestrial. The Notom-Bullfrog Road can be seen meandering along the valley, providing close-up access to geological treasures. The dark hulks of the Henry Mountains provide contrast to crenellated battlements of blue Mancos shale, banded hills of purple and green bentonite, and salmon-pink petrified dunes. Far below, Sandy Creek winds through the desert badlands, providing just enough water to sustain yellow cottonwoods.
